Betty Lou Steele Piliponis will be celebrating her 90th birthday with family and friends, from near and far, at her beloved Christ the King Catholic Church. It will be a time for Betty Lou to be honored, and to share good wishes and fond memories with her loved ones. She will cherish spending time with dear friends and family.
Betty Lou was welcomed into the world by her loving parents, Edward Vincent Steele and Ivis Ernestine Sargent Steele on July 21, 1928 into the farming community of Browning, Mo. Sadly, Betty's dear mother, Ivis, passed away when Betty was only 7 years old. After some time her father remarried, and when Betty was 13 years of age, after living through the Great Depression, the new, blended family moved to Moline in order for her father to find employment. Life became a little easier, time went by, and Charles Joseph Piliponis entered Betty's world. It was not until after Charles returned from active duty in the USAF during WWII that he noticed Betty had grown up! Betty married the love of her life when she married Charles. Charles and Betty had three children. They had been married for 55 wonderful years at the time of the passing of Charles. Betty lost her second born child, Charles Jr., in 1961 after he had lived for only 30 minutes. Betty's husband, Charles, passed away on April 30, 2003, and one week later, on May 7, 2003, her youngest child, Lou Ann, passed away as well.
Betty has had many jobs over the last 90 years, but Moline High School Cafeteria was Betty's work home for 32 years where she cooked many delicous, nutritious meals for the teachers and students and made many wonderful friends of her co-workers.
Betty's daughter, Kathleen Piliponis Ripley, is married to Edward Ripley, they have two sons, Eric Michael Ripley, married to Lauren Calandruccio and Jonathan Vincent Ripley, married to Stacy Young-Ripley. Eric and Lauren have two children, Kieran Michael and Kai Francesca, and Jonathan and Stacy have one son, Dean Solo. Betty is often referred to as "GG" now that she is a great-grandmother! Betty's brother, Paul Steele and sister, Bonnie Schwartz, both reside in Moline. Her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theresa and Tom Meegan, reside in Moline. Her sister, VonDean Mollenhauer, resides in Pasadena, Calif.
Betty feels blessed by her entire family, near and far, and she delights in every generation as she witnesses the growth of the family. Betty gives God the glory for all of her many blessings in every area of her life.
